While today Visikol is primarily focused on providing pharmaceutical and biotech companies with best-in-class services in the fields of 3D tissue imaging, digital pathology, 3D cell culture models and machine learning, Visikol initially started back in 2013 as a products company. These products are focused on addressing the limitations associated with traditional histopathology by allowing researchers to render tissues transparent such that they can be imaged in 3D when combined with fluorescent labeling and three-dimensional microscopy. The Visikol portfolio of tissue clearing reagents and kits has been used by over 1,000 research labs from around the world for applications ranging from tracking the efficacy of viral-based therapeutics in the brain to studying plant material in droppings from Gorillas in the jungles of Rwanda.
This product portfolio includes the Visikol HISTO-1 and Visikol HISTO-2 reagents designed for use with whole tissues such as a whole mouse brain as well as the Visikol HISTO-M reagent which has been designed specifically for use with 3D cell culture models and organoids. Additionally, the first reagent which Visikol developed was the Visikol for Plant Biology reagent (formerly referred to as Visikol) which has been used industry-wide in the botanical microscopy field as a replacement for chloral hydrate in visualizing plant samples.
“For the last six years our products have been staples for researchers trying to extract the highest quality of data from tissues and we want to allow any researcher to now give our products a try. Therefore, we are excited to launch this free sample initiative through which any research group can get access to our Visikol reagents for use with whole tissues, 3D cell culture models or plant samples,” described Visikol Product Manager Ian MacCloud.
