Visikol starts beta-testing Visikol® HISTO™ with researchers

For the last three years the Visikol team has been developing a Visikol-based approach for rendering animal tissues transparent to allow them to be visualized in 3D using modern molecular labeling techniques. We are happy to announce that we have begun beta testing these tools with researchers and are looking forward to launching them into the marketplace in late 2016.

Over the last five years, substantial progress has been made in developing tissue clearing and labeling techniques such as CLARITY, Scale, iDISCO/3DISCO and now uDISCO. The stunning images created by these techniques have received substantial media attention and researchers have utilized them to create high resolution 3D maps of tissues. However, these techniques have not been widely adopted by main-stream researchers due to their difficulty of use, tendency to damage cellular morphology, and/or toxicity.

To address these problems, we have developed Visikol® HISTO™ which is a tissue clearing technique designed to easily and rapidly render biological tissues transparent. We have designed Visikol® HISTO™ to be simple and easy-to-use so that any researcher can integrate 3D tissue visualization into their bio-imaging workflow. Additionally, Visikol® HISTO™ does not rely upon removing lipids or cellular structures, and so this technique is reversible. This means that a tissue can be imaged in 3D first, then uncleared, and then the tissue can be embedded for traditional 2D histological visualization (H&E sections). This allows for valuable tissue samples to be preserved for traditional H&E, allowing researchers to validate 3D imaging against the traditional 2D approach.

We are currently in the process of beta-testing Visikol® HISTO™ with researchers to get their feedback as we plan the launch of a comprehensive suite of 3D tissue visualization reagents and kits. We feel that early customer feedback is essential to the success of Visikol® HISTO™ as we want to make sure that this technology can be easily and quickly integrated into any researcher’s lab.
